A few weeks ago Jennifer Anderson and I co-guided for a group of young folks, all of whom are experiencing deep grief from the passing (I prefer the word transition) of one or both parents or another close loved one. What I noticed: coping mechanisms of suppressing pain, fear of feeling, the desire to run, yearning to be acknowledged. How does Nature and Forest Therapy help? Nature heals. Nature does not judge. Nature accepts all. The more than human world simply can be a place to let out all of the hurt; to breathe in strength and let out fear; to ask wise trees, gentle waters, caressing breezes to gently remove pain, restore peace, faith, joy and cheer. And with time, frequent connection in nature will soothe an aching heart.
